Ready for some elegant yet simple cards? Shaded Summer has a shabby chic vibe and since I was in the mood to make something metallic I came up with these cards! The fun here is heat embossing on foil sheets!
Fun (but random) fact: It was tricky photographing foil sheets so my cards are at an angle! Sorry! I'm not a professional photographer but I'll get better at pictures I promise! If you don't mind the angles... read on!
CARD MEASUREMENTS:
Foil Sheet Layer: 4 x 5-1/4"
Card Base: 4-1/4 x 5-1/2"
Sentiment Layer: 3/4 x 4"
TIPS FOR HEAT EMBOSSING ON FOIL SHEETS
I recommend an anti static tool. I used an embossing buddy
Be gentle with the foil sheet surface because it can scratch or mark easily
If using a clear block then stamp straight up and down with VersaMark Ink so it doesn't slide around the foil
The heat tool (depending on which one you use) may curl the foil sheet slightly as you emboss the powder. You can bend it back into place as it cools down
Wait a few moments before touching the embossed images. Let cool
Wipe away any residue from the anti static tool or powder (Anti static tool helps to keep the powder from sticking to anything other than the VersaMark ink)
I recommend a stronger adhesive with specialty paper when adhering to card base like the foil sheets
Place the adhesive on the card base and not the back of the foil sheet so you don't make impressions in the foil sheet
The look in the end is GORGEOUS! And the card layouts are simple. This stamp set is so versatile with all of the sentiment options as well. One card has a stamped background and the other a simple focal image.
Copper Foil Sheets, Copper Heat Emboss Powder & Shaded Summer Stamp Set (Love the tone on tone look here)
Copper Foil Sheets with White Heat Emboss Powder and Shaded Summer Stamp Set
Gold Foil Sheets with Black Heat Emboss Powder and (retiring) Lace Trim

It's Paper Pumpkin Alternate Idea time on the blog!
There are 6 alternate card ideas in this video and blog post:
Two cards are SWING Cards
Two cards split the Day/Night card into a Day Card and a Night card
Two cards are background stamp card ideas!
I will be using alternate products to create these cards. There is a product list at the end of this blog post and here's a snapshot of the main alternate products used.
HEADS UP! Before I get into the tutorial... FREE SHIPPING on orders of $75 or more tomorrow! So excited! This is great when you need to stock up on the weighty supplies like cardstock, inks, tools and paper or if you've been wanting some last chance items before they retire. Either way, Free Shipping only happens a few times a year and is SO WORTH IT!
ONE DAY ONLY - THURSDAY, April 21, 2022!
Ok, back to the alternate card ideas:
Swing Card #1: This is the Paper Pumpkin Fun Fold Card Base with a swing! I like sentiments on my card fronts which was the inspiration for adding the swing element to the card.
Swing Card Option #2: Also a Fun Fold from the Kit
The Night/ Day Card is so clever on its own. I did separate them to make a "night" theme. I mostly stuck to the Paper Pumpkin design. I changed out the sentiment. Added more stars and Wink of Stella with a Crushed Curry Card Base: 8-1/2 x 5-1/2 and scored at 4-1/4"
The Day version of the card is the simplest of the alternate cards. Stamped a simple border at the bottom of a Crushed Curry Card Base: 8-1/2 x 5-1/2 and scored at 4-1/4"
Have fun stamping backgrounds in the coordinating colors of the kit! Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay, Granny Apple Green, Crushed Curry. Add that envelope liner in Melon Mambo as a layer. Granny Apple Green Card Base: 8-1/2 x 5-1/2 and scored at 4-1/4"
Version #2 for stamping backgrounds (with the bigger butterfly)! Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay, Granny Apple Green, Crushed Curry. Add that envelope liner in Green/Blue as a layer. Melon Mambo Card Base: 8-1/2 x 5-1/2 and scored at 4-1/4"
I hope you enjoyed today's alternate projects. We can use so much of these kits and really extend the use of them by creating alternate projects.

Today's video does not include a cardmaking tutorial. Today's video is an interview style video offering tips on crafting with loved ones on the autism spectrum. Don't worry. I'll be back to making cards this week but I wanted to take some time out in April to bring awareness to crafting and autism.
MY SPECIAL GUEST & WHERE YOU CAN FIND HER
Mandy Keckler is a friend and a co-worker of mine. She has 20+ years experience as a Pediatric Occupational Therapist and she was kind enough to volunteer her time to go through the Robot Buddies card kit with me to offer a different perspective on ways to make crafting with a kit even easier for children/ loved ones who are autistic.
Mandy is a Pediatric Occupational Therapist at Behaviorworx Center for Autism & Behavior. Go to www.behaviorworxofsouthwesternpa.com to learn more about the Mandy and the center.
NEAR & DEAR TO MY HEART
For Autism Awareness Month (in April) I like to talk a little bit about my personal experience crafting with Connor, my son, and all of the things we've learned over the years (and continue to learn) with art & crafts. While autism and parenting is gigantic and complex topic I am narrowing our talk to crafting but it also relates to my business.
I know this video may not be for everyone but I encourage you to watch if you'd like to learn a little more about this topic and ways that you can help. I also welcome your comments or questions.
DISCLAIMER
This is not intended to be medical advice. Always consult your child's family/ legal guardians/ specialists for what is best for them. This video was created with the intention of bringing awareness to the topic of autism and crafting and offering possible tips, but every child/ person on the Autism Spectrum is different. Use your judgment and seek advice from your medical experts/ specialists. I am speaking from personal experience as a Mom.
SHARE
This isn't something I say everyday but if you know someone who might enjoy these tips or this topic please share it with them. This is how we get the word out if sharing is something you are comfortable doing.
Today is about making simple SHAKER CARDS that sparkle! The star of today's show is the Seas the Day Bundle!
I have a list of the products used below. Several items are retiring so once they are gone, they are gone. (While supplies last for retiring items). Don't miss out!
Seas the Day Bundle Shaker Cards
Ombre Specialty Paper in Blue with Misty Moonlight Card Base
Ombre Specialty Paper in Orange with Misty Moonlight Cardstock
Ombre Specialty Paper in Purple with Misty Moonlight Cardstock
All of the Different Ombre Frames with the Sea Dies
CARD MEASUREMENTS
Score 8-1/2 x 11 sheet of cardstock at 5-1/2" and Cut at 4-1/4"
You will have two card bases with one sheet of cardstock. (I used Misty Moonlight for all card bases) NOTE: Misty Moonlight Cardstock is retiring! Retiring items are while supplies last. Get them before they are gone!
Your Sea Frame Layer will be 4 x 5-1/4" - All frames were cut with Specialty Ombre Paper
Window Sheet - Same size as the Frame Layer - 4 x 5-1/4" (This is only needed if you plan to make a shaker cards)
You will need enough foam adhesive strips for a 4 x 5-1/4" size layer. If you are making multiple shaker cards like I am then I recommend having a full pack. You want to make sure your sequins do not escape the shaker so having the right foam strip frame is really important!
Get your card layout the way you want it. I recommend stamping and die cutting multiple of the sea creatures so you have a variety of options for your ocean scene, especially if you are making multiple cards like I am. I have to have coordinating colors so I tend to stamp in those coordinating shades. You can do whatever is best for you. If you only have a few colors, that's ok! If you have a variety of shades, have fun with them!
The Gorgeous Grape Octopus went with the purple frame. The Mango Melody (orange) fish went with the orange frame and the Pacific Point fish went with the blue frame.
You will follow the steps for your shaker according to the video tutorial:
-Adhere your window sheet to your frame layer with Tear and Tape Adhesive
-Build a rectangle (completely closed at each corner) with Foam Adhesive Sheets. This will become the barrier frame that keeps your sequins in the shaker card
-Place your sequins (a few pinches) of sequins in the center of the card so the area where your foam adhesive strips go are clear
-Remove backing and place the frame down. Press down so the shaker is secure and then shake those sequins!
Add your sentiment. You can add it as one piece to the side. If you want to add a fun visual element cut the sentiment into pieces so each word is on its own and glue them down with glue dots along the side of the card.
Finish your card with a crab or star fish along with the die cut seaweed. Add with glue dots or adhesive of choice.
Today's post is about the Robot Buddies Card Kit and some fun alternate ideas you can try with your loved ones.
April is Autism Awareness Month and during this month I am featuring products and ideas that will appeal to children or loved ones on the spectrum.
Mini Paper Pumpkin Boxes Decorated with Robot Buddies Ink and Stamps
Alternate (Note Card Size) Card using Robot Buddies Stamp Set *This size will fit in a Mini Paper Pumpkin Box*
Original Kit Designed Card Layouts from Stampin' Up! *Hands Down Easiest Card Kit to Assemble Yet* GREAT FOR KIDS (neurotypical or neurodiverse)
A peek inside the Mini Paper Pumpkin Box Great Gift Idea or Make "Mini" Card Kits for Kids
I wanted to show you can make a matching game or memory game and put it right inside the Mini Paper Pumpkin Box
Here's a look at the two different size matching cards. Colors: Gray Granite, Pumpkin Pie, Granny Apple Green, Balmy Blue, Bermuda Bay, Night of Navy (coordinating kit colors)
This card kit was specifically designed for kids. It's a very clean, simple card design. It features stickers and googly eyes and, of course, robots! It's cute and its easy.
My alternate ideas feature the Mini Paper Pumpkin Boxes (which are retiring and while supplies last at this point). The concept is making mini gifts for them or with them! With Easter coming let them have fun stamping the boxes or making a fun matching activity. Play with different colors and robots.
The Detail Trio Punch which has the corner rounder for the match cards is on clearance for $12.00!!! Do not miss out on that! I am so sad it is retiring. If you like making flash cards or projects or you have little ones who love the punches, they'll love this one!
FLASH CARD MEASUREMEMENTS
Small Flash Card: 2-1/2 x 2-3/4" (Small Robot)
Large Flash Card: 3 x 3-1/2" (Large Robot)
Use your Stamparatus to make multiple cards for a matching or memory activity. Keep your Simply Shammy nearby to clean stamps between colors. Finish up by rounding those corners with the Detailed Trio Punch. Laminating is optional. I recommend it if you need additional reinforcement for your little ones.
Follow all manufacturer safety guidelines for your laminator.
Decorating your Mini Paper Pumpkin Boxes... this is such a fun activity for the kids to do with you. Let them decorate a whole box with stickers or stamps! Especially if they are making a card for a friend or for grandpa or grandma... if it's the reverse and you are making a little gift box for your littles, enjoy this process too! These boxes are also retiring and while supplies last.
The Alternate Card is from the Note Cards and Envelopes so follow those measurements.
I hope you enjoyed the alternate ideas for this kit! Give it a try. It's so easy and affordable and fun. If you are trying to come up with ideas to get kids off of their screens this is a great option!

If you have any questions, email me at stampingwithhart@gmail.com
I used the Brights Collection: Granny Apple Green, Pacific Point, Poppy Parade, Daffodil Delight, Gorgeous Grape, Melon Mambo
Best Delivery Stamp Set and Playful Alphabet Dies were used to create the activity. The Playful Alphabet Dies are retiring soon! Get them while you can!
I chose to laminate the activity. It's very helpful if you need more durability.
AUTISM & CRAFTING AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH APRIL 2022
Autism is near and dear to my heart. Every year during this month I like to add some simple activities people on the spectrum might enjoy. Of course, all kids might love these activities and some of our loved ones with special needs may have a physical age that is different from their developmental age so when I write this post I want you to know this is meant to be inclusive for anyone, but I will be talking a little bit about my personal story and tips I've learned along the way crafting and making activities for my son, who is now 6 years old, so you may hear me say "kids" or "little ones" or "loved ones" but if adults on the spectrum enjoy this as well know they are included here. These activities are for anyone who may enjoy them.
If you have any questions or would like to share your stories leave a comment below.
DISCLAIMER: I am not a medical professional or medical expert. The tips I'll be sharing throughout the month are from what I've learned on our journey. Every person on the spectrum is different. You should always consult the family/ caregiver/ professionals for your loved one if you plan to incorporate them into your crafting or plan to send cards or activities to them. Ask about safety considerations and consider any accommodations they may need.
ORDERING SPECIAL
For ONE WEEK ONLY - April 1 - 7, 2022, when you place a $50.00 or more order (before tax) with me in the online store using HOST CODE: GZP29SRG *here is a link that will add it to your cart* https://www.stampinup.com?hostcode=GZP29SRG you will receive the 5 card kits pictured above, a PDF Tutorial, video link and a pack of Resin Star embellishments.
Important: I will start working on the card kits after the Host Code closes. That means I will start working on kits on April 8th and will need several days to get everything cut and ordered so it can be shipped to you. I will get the kits out in the mail no later than April 16, 2022. The PDF Tutorial and video link will be sent via email the day the card kits ship. Plus, I'll pay to ship the card kits to you. The order you place online will ship from Stampin' Up! The card kits and Host Code gift ship from me.
The cards in today's Ordering Special were inspired by my son. He loves bright colors. He loves repeat patterns and it has trucks on it. I chose the Best Delivery Stamp Set for this card class. When you receive your kits you could use any stamp set that your loved one may enjoy but I highly recommend Best Delivery if you have loved ones who adore trucks or wheels or vehicles. I also appreciate that the stamp set has a font that can be easily read. Everything is clear print and not a fancy script font. They also do not have any embellishments on the cards. When my son was younger he had a tendency to put everything in his mouth. We've moved past that phase but if your loved one may do that, avoid any embellishments that could be removed from the card and eaten.
Note: You will get a pack of embellishments from me as part of this special but save those for other fun projects. The cards for this class are smooth and flat and will be easy to mail. My son likes to carry the cards around and line them up and play with them. Whatever works!
Pacific Point (part of the Brights Collection)
Granny Apple Green (part of the Brights Collection)
Mango Melody (part of the Brights Collection)
Flirty Flamingo (part of the Brights Collection)
Poppy Parade (part of the Brights Collection)
CREATING IT WITH THEM
If you have opportunities to include loved ones in your crafting, please do. Inclusion is a sensitive topic for me personally. I understand not everyone knows what autism is or maybe you are afraid to ask how you can help or what you can do. That's normal. It took time for me to be able to talk about it and be open with tips and ideas as well.
Sometimes it's about what your loved one likes vs. what they don't. Expectations are different for children on the spectrum at times but that doesn't mean they can't do it or can't participate. My son needs frequent breaks. My son tends to max out around 6 minutes on any given activity. So I plan our crafting around that and, don't get me wrong, I don't make him make cards with me everyday but he has a curiosity and interest in what I'm doing. He loves exploring the craft room and I pay attention to what he likes. I focus on the "like" and "can do" vs. "Don't like" or "can't do." Remove "can't do" from the thought process altogether. Make it positive for them.
My son struggles to color with a pencil or hold a marker for longer than a few seconds but he LOVES big motions and movements. The Stamparatus and Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine both have big movements. The Stamparatus plate goes up and down and you can give it a good push. You can also remove the plates, flip the plates... lots of big movements there and he could stamp 5 images in about 5 minutes. He loves to crank and squeeze. He's very sensory seeking in that way.
IF YOU PLAN TO CRAFT FOR THEM
Sometimes families and caregivers are in the thick of appointments and therapies not to mention school and work. It can be exhausting. If you have time to make the activity for them it would be appreciated I am sure.
