Effortless Upgrades: Taking Your Simple Cards to the Next Level

You can download the free project sheet for today's cards here: https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/su/6CLX3rl/lazydaysbundlecards

I will be featuring the Lazy Days Bundle in this tutorial as well as the 2023-2025 In Color Collection!

The simple version of the card is in all 5 colors and I created a stepped up version of the Copper Clay Card. (Learn more about In Color Club below for Copper Clay in July).

CARD MEASUREMENTS

  • Card Base: 4-1/4 x 11" Score at 5-1/2" (Copper Clay Cardstock)
  • Layer: 4 x 5-1/4" (Basic White Cardstock)
  • Die Cut Trim (Cut to 4-1/4") (Basic White Cardstock)
  • Die Cut Throw Rug (Basic White Cardstock)
  • Die Cut Rocking Chair (Basic White Cardstock)
  • Die Cut Side Table (Basic White Cardstock)

If you are stepping up the card also cut:

  • (2) Die Cut Hanging Plants (Basic White Cardstock)
  • (3) Die Cut Ivy Vines (Garden Green Cardstock)
  • (2) 2023-2025 In Color Dot Embellishments

INSTRUCTIONS

Using the Deckled Rectangle Die cut (2-1/2 x 3-7/8" size) out the center of the card front. This will become the window of your card.

In Copper Clay ink, stamp your rocking chair, side table, throw rug onto the coordinating die cut pieces. Stamp sentiment onto the piece of Basic White and glue into card.

Glue the trim to the top of the card.

NOTE: I used multipurpose glue on the top and bottom of the trim die cut but left the slats alone. This way you can tuck pieces of the ivy into it. I personally think adhesive sheets would be easier because this is a highly detailed piece and adhesive sheets turn your die cuts into stickers. If you choose that adhesive option then interweave your ivy before gluing to the card. If you do not want to weave the ivy you can place it over top. I just didn't want to cover all of the detail of the trim. Any of these options are fine. Have fun with it!

When you start to glue your die cuts to the card just be mindful of where you are placing it so it doesn't have glue on the window part of the card front.

Glue the throw rug first. I used Stampin' Seal+ and glued the bottom of die cut only. It will slightly cover your rectangle when you glue it down.

Next, add the side table. You can place glue on the left side and bottom of die cut. Place it so it is half on the card front and half overlaps the rectangle window. Same with rocking chair only this time the glue would go on the right side of the die cut. Part of chair goes on the card base and part will overlap with the rectangle cut out.

This is the basic version of your card! Nice and simple. You get to use your stamps and dies. It's just one ink color and coordinating card stock.

If you want to step up the card see the next set of instructions...

STEPPING UP THE SAME CARD

Stamp two hanging plants in Copper Clay ink. Color the plants with Stampin' Blends:

  • Shaded Spruce Dark, Old Olive Dark and Light for the leaves of the plants (same on both plants)
  • Moody Mauve Light and Dark on the pots

I really liked the combinations of green on the plants to give a multi dimensional look. Our Stampin' Blends are alcohol based markers which means you can layer and blend the colors together easily and beautifully for a professional look without much effort. If you only have one or two greens that's ok, too. But layering and combining colors can be fun! Try it.

For the throw rug you can add Ivory to the center design of the throw rug. I didn't color the edges.

For the glasses on the table, add your desired beverage color. I used Daffodil Delight Light in the glasses and then added a few dots of dark at the bottom of the cup as if it were fresh lemonade and the pulp was settled at the bottom of the glass.

For the furniture, take the Copper Clay Stampin' Blends Combo and use light marker to color the whole rocking chair and table. Go back in with Dark and just outline a few spots along the trim and legs of the furniture to give it even more of a pop of dimension. This, of course, is optional but you will see how this one little addition really helps bring your welcoming porch scene to life.

Take the die cut ivy and trim into smaller pieces. Add desired adhesive and tuck into the trim at top of card in several places. This adds so much character! And color!

Place glue on the hanging plants and glue them so they are hanging from the trim on either side of the card front.

Add several In Color Dots in Copper Clay to the trim or where desired for some shine.

SUGGESTION: Use scrap paper when coloring with Stampin' Blends. Our Basic White cardstock works beautifully with the blends but if it is very saturated it can bleed through so protect your surface with scrap paper.

This is one of the rare cards where I did not use Stampin' Dimensionals! But you certainly can use them if you like.

Repeat this in your favorite color collection if desired and end up with a color card set in your favorite colors from Stampin' Up!

I hope you enjoyed today's card tutorial!
