Effortless Upgrades: Taking Your Simple Cards to the Next Level

You can download the free project sheet for today's cards here: https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/su/6CLX3rl/lazydaysbundlecards

I will be featuring the Lazy Days Bundle in this tutorial as well as the 2023-2025 In Color Collection!

The simple version of the card is in all 5 colors and I created a stepped up version of the Copper Clay Card. (Learn more about In Color Club below for Copper Clay in July).

CARD MEASUREMENTS

  • Card Base: 4-1/4 x 11" Score at 5-1/2" (Copper Clay Cardstock)
  • Layer: 4 x 5-1/4" (Basic White Cardstock)
  • Die Cut Trim (Cut to 4-1/4") (Basic White Cardstock)
  • Die Cut Throw Rug (Basic White Cardstock)
  • Die Cut Rocking Chair (Basic White Cardstock)
  • Die Cut Side Table (Basic White Cardstock)

If you are stepping up the card also cut:

  • (2) Die Cut Hanging Plants (Basic White Cardstock)
  • (3) Die Cut Ivy Vines (Garden Green Cardstock)
  • (2) 2023-2025 In Color Dot Embellishments

INSTRUCTIONS

Using the Deckled Rectangle Die cut (2-1/2 x 3-7/8" size) out the center of the card front. This will become the window of your card.

In Copper Clay ink, stamp your rocking chair, side table, throw rug onto the coordinating die cut pieces. Stamp sentiment onto the piece of Basic White and glue into card.

Glue the trim to the top of the card.

NOTE: I used multipurpose glue on the top and bottom of the trim die cut but left the slats alone. This way you can tuck pieces of the ivy into it. I personally think adhesive sheets would be easier because this is a highly detailed piece and adhesive sheets turn your die cuts into stickers. If you choose that adhesive option then interweave your ivy before gluing to the card. If you do not want to weave the ivy you can place it over top. I just didn't want to cover all of the detail of the trim. Any of these options are fine. Have fun with it!

When you start to glue your die cuts to the card just be mindful of where you are placing it so it doesn't have glue on the window part of the card front.

Glue the throw rug first. I used Stampin' Seal+ and glued the bottom of die cut only. It will slightly cover your rectangle when you glue it down.

Next, add the side table. You can place glue on the left side and bottom of die cut. Place it so it is half on the card front and half overlaps the rectangle window. Same with rocking chair only this time the glue would go on the right side of the die cut. Part of chair goes on the card base and part will overlap with the rectangle cut out.

This is the basic version of your card! Nice and simple. You get to use your stamps and dies. It's just one ink color and coordinating card stock.

If you want to step up the card see the next set of instructions...

STEPPING UP THE SAME CARD

Stamp two hanging plants in Copper Clay ink. Color the plants with Stampin' Blends:

  • Shaded Spruce Dark, Old Olive Dark and Light for the leaves of the plants (same on both plants)
  • Moody Mauve Light and Dark on the pots

I really liked the combinations of green on the plants to give a multi dimensional look. Our Stampin' Blends are alcohol based markers which means you can layer and blend the colors together easily and beautifully for a professional look without much effort. If you only have one or two greens that's ok, too. But layering and combining colors can be fun! Try it.

For the throw rug you can add Ivory to the center design of the throw rug. I didn't color the edges.

For the glasses on the table, add your desired beverage color. I used Daffodil Delight Light in the glasses and then added a few dots of dark at the bottom of the cup as if it were fresh lemonade and the pulp was settled at the bottom of the glass.

For the furniture, take the Copper Clay Stampin' Blends Combo and use light marker to color the whole rocking chair and table. Go back in with Dark and just outline a few spots along the trim and legs of the furniture to give it even more of a pop of dimension. This, of course, is optional but you will see how this one little addition really helps bring your welcoming porch scene to life.

Take the die cut ivy and trim into smaller pieces. Add desired adhesive and tuck into the trim at top of card in several places. This adds so much character! And color!

Place glue on the hanging plants and glue them so they are hanging from the trim on either side of the card front.

Add several In Color Dots in Copper Clay to the trim or where desired for some shine.

SUGGESTION: Use scrap paper when coloring with Stampin' Blends. Our Basic White cardstock works beautifully with the blends but if it is very saturated it can bleed through so protect your surface with scrap paper.

This is one of the rare cards where I did not use Stampin' Dimensionals! But you certainly can use them if you like.

Repeat this in your favorite color collection if desired and end up with a color card set in your favorite colors from Stampin' Up!

I hope you enjoyed today's card tutorial!

June 2023 Paper Pumpkin ALTERNATE CARD DIEAS: Welcome Inn Kit, Plus Add-...

Download the FREE Project Sheet for today's cards here: https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/su/N6Y7m5f/junePPalternatecards

CARD MEASUREMENTS

  • Card Base: 5-1/2 x 8-1/2" Score: 4-1/4" (Basic White Cardstock)
  • Blue Pattern Layer (Paper Pumpkin Card Base Cut in Half 4-1/4 x 5-1/2")
  • Night of Navy Layer (Paper Pumpkin Card Base cut in half and sized to 3-3/4 x 5"
  • Boho Blue Envelope Layer: (Paper Pumpkin envelope cut to 4 x 5-1/4"
  • Die Cut Vase (Boho Blue Envelope Paper)
  • Die Cut Flower Outline (Night of Navy Cardstock)
  • Die Cut Flower Fill Petals (Boho Blue Envelope Paper)
  • Die Cut Banner for Greeting (Something Fancy Dies) (Basic White Cardstock)

INSTRUCTIONS

Trim the Blue Patterned card base from the kit in half. Trim the Night of Navy card base in half.

Glue the Blue Patterned layer (now 4-1/4 x 5-1/2" to the front of the Basic White card. It should cover the full front of card.

Trim the Night of Navy layer to 3-3/4 x 5" and then die cut with the largest frame lace die from the Darling Details dies.

Cut up one Boho Blue envelope until you have the front piece and trim that to 4 x 5-1/4"

Lay the Blue Frame over it as the guide to place the smaller lace die in the center. Remove blue frame and die cut the small lace from into the Boho Blue layer.

Die cut the vase (using the Welcome Inn Add-On Dies) in the envelope paper as well.

Die cut the outline flower bouquet in Night of Navy cardstock (or using one of the card bases if you don't have coordinating cardstock yet). Cut it again in the envelope paper, set aside while the die is still in the plates from the machine (this will keep the piece together and make it easier for paper piecing later).

Glue the Boho Blue Layer to the card. Place the strip dimensionals from the kit on the die cut Night of Navy frame and place center over the lace frame on the Boho Blue layer you just glued down. You should now have two layers of lace frames.

Stamp your vase on the blue die cut vase in Night of Navy ink.

Glue the Night of Navy die cut bouquet toward the top of the center lace frame. Save enough room to glue the vase at the bottom. I used dimensionals for the vase but not for the flowers.

Next, and this is optional, you can paper piece the Boho Blue petals into the Night of Navy Outline Die of Bouquet Flowers. Love this paper piecing technique. I recommend the putty side of your Take Your Pick tool to help keep this process easy. You just add a dot of glue and place the petal inside the flowers.

Stamp "Welcome" in Night of Navy ink on a white banner die cut. I used the die cut angled banner from the Something Fancy Dies.

Glue just under the vase but where the lace can still show through.

Finish with the dot embellishments from the kit. I placed one on either side of the sentiment.

(I'll admit this is one of my favorite alternates!)

CARD MEASUREMENTS

  • Card Base: 5-1/2 x 8-1/2" Score: 4-1/4" (Basic White Cardstock)
  • Calypso Coral Card Layer (Paper Pumpkin Card Base Cut to 2-1/2 x 4")
  • Calypso Coral Strips (4) (1 x 4") Calypso Coral Cardstock
  • Petal Pink Strips: (4) (1 x 4") (Petal Pink Cardstock)
  • Basic White Strip (1 x 4") (Basic White Cardstock)
  • Die Cut Flowers (4) Welcome Inn Dies (Basic White Cardstock)
  • Die Cut Leaf Branches (4) Welcome Inn Dies (Basic White Cardstock)
  • 1 fussy cut fox (optional) from the same card pattern to use as embellishment

INSTRUCTIONS

Glue the pattern piece to the card front on the top portion.

Die cut 8 strips of cardstock in the straight lace die from Darling Details Dies. I cut 4 in Petal Pink and 4 Calypso Coral. Use what you have on hand.

Note: Calypso Coral is a coordinating color for this month's kit. I added Petal Pink to incorporate a 3rd color.

I actually had larger strips and just trimmed them to 4" but you can also cut to 4" and then die cut (whatever you prefer).

Glue lace die cut strips to the card starting at the bottom of the pattern piece. Curl the top lace layer upward so you can glue and tuck the next piece of lace underneath. Repeat until 8 strips have been glued. You can also leave these flat. I liked adding some dimension by popping up the lace.

Stamp the "Thank you for your hospitality" stamp from the Paper Pumpkin kit in the center of the Basic White strip in Calypso Coral ink.

Stamp two flowers in Calypso Coral and two flowers in Petal Pink from the single flower stamp in the Paper Pumpkin kit. This has a coordinating die from the add-on dies. Die cut.

Die cut 4 branches from the add-on dies in Basic White. Fussy cut one fox from the leftover pattern paper (that was originally a card base in the Paper Pumpkin kit). Add the flowers, fox and branches decoratively on either side of the sentiment on the white strip as well.

I hope you enjoyed these alternate card ideas from the June Paper Pumpkin kit. I will have a list of additional products used as part of this project sheet along with my June Host Code.

If you would like to subscribe to Paper Pumpkin for the July kit you can do that here: https://www.paperpumpkin.com/en-us/sign-up/?demoid=2212777

If you would like to check out prepaid Paper Pumpkin subscription options I have those listed on this project sheet as well. Email me if you have any questions.

How to Build Striking Scenes with Stamps & Alcohol Markers: Let's Go Sho...

CARD MEASUREMENTS: (Easy Fun Fold Card)
  • Card Base: 4-1/4 x 11" Score at 5-1/2" (Basic White Cardstock)
  • Trim off 2-3/4"
  • Cut an additional piece of Basic White at 2-3/4"
  • DSP Pattern 1 (Blue): 2-1/2 x 4"
  • DSP Pattern 1 (Blue): 4 x 5-1/4"
  • DSP Pattern 2 (Yellow): 2-1/2 x 4"
  • Die Cut Shop Top Piece (Basic White)
  • Die Cut Shop Bottom Piece (Basic White)
  • 2 Die Cut Street Lanterns (Basic Black)
  • Die Cut Rectangle Sign (for Greeting)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Stamp your shop and desired accessory pieces in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink on Basic White Cardstock.

NOTE: Some like to use the Thick Basic White Cardstock when coloring with Blends but I usually just use the regular Basic White.

Color your shop pieces (I turned it into a bookstore) with the Stampin' Blends in the following shades:
  • Shop Building - Pebbled Path Combo Pack
  • Windows - Night of Navy Light and Tahitian Tide Combo Pack
  • Lights - Daffodil Delight Combo & Color Lifter
  • Books on shelves - Variety of colors: Shaded Spruce, Bronze, Basic Black, Moody Mauve, Orchid Oasis, Pumpkin Pie... use what colors you have
Die cut the pieces you just colored.

Die cut the street light lanterns in Basic Black cardstock.

Glue the DSP to the card base. Glue the small DSP pieces. Adhere your fun fold piece in front. Be sure to only add glue to the upper part so the fun fold works.

Take the other 2-3/4" piece add glue to back and then line the front up with the fun fold piece. Set down. This way your rectangles will be aligned perfectly.

I hope you enjoyed today's card project! Shopping list below including the June Host Code and don't forget FREE SHIPPING on June 21st! One day only!

How to Color a Large Stamp in 3 Different Ways: One Horse Open Sleigh Ki...

We are halfway through the year! Yes, it's that time for cardmakers and crafters to start thinking about or making Christmas cards and handmade gifts for the 2023 season!

Let me introduce you to the One Horse Open Sleigh Suite from Stampin' Up!

This suite will be part of the online exclusives launch July 6, 2023!

What is an online exclusive?

It is a new thing from Stampin' Up! this year where they do these new product launches at certain times throughout the year that are products NOT in the catalogs. You find these items online exclusively!

It's been really fun to see the popularity with online exclusive products. This is the second online release this year!

And, yes, there is a way you can get the ONE HORSE OPEN SLEIGH SUITE right now! You don't have to wait until July 6th when you purchase the Starter Kit!

Now, if you are already a demonstrator you can actually preorder this suite in June, right now! But if you are not yet a demonstrator there is an AWESOME deal in June!

When you join in June 2023, you choose $155 in products (think wish list) but you only pay $99. That's a $56 savings to start.

You can put online exclusive preorder items in your Starter Kit as well! You get to enjoy this demonstrator benefit even with your starter kit!

You save 20% on purchases as a demonstrator. Think of it this way....

If you make cards or craft regularly... if you make handmade cards, keepsakes, gifts and memory keeping a priority for Christmas... this is the best time to join and get those discounts!

I recommend starting early so you aren't in a time crunch later in the year when life gets very busy with traditions and travel and gatherings, etc.

Join and save!

You also get first access to new catalogs and preorder launches (like this online exclusive).

Build your starter kit here: https://www.stampinup.com/join?demoid=2212777

Today, we are talking about 3 Ways to Color a Large Scale Stamped Image like the 5 inch horse and sleigh image in this suite.

Watercolor/ Painters

Paper Piecing

Stampin' Blends/ Alcohol Based Markers

Keep in mind, this One Horse Open Sleigh Suite is not available for customers to purchase until July 6th! But I will include a list of the available products used at the end of the blog post.

COLOR TECHNIQUE #1 - STAMPIN' BLENDS

Stampin' Blends, an alcohol based marker that colors smoothly and evenly and get can blend beautifully with other shades to create depth and dimension with your projects.

COLOR TECHNIQUE #2 - PAPER PIECING

Paper Piecing may not be the most popular technique but it is a WOW when you take the time to do it. This reminds me of paper dolls in days past. It does take some fussy cutting but large scale images are perfect for this and create such a unique look on your finished projects.

COLOR TECHNIQUE #3 - WATERCOLOR/ WATER PAINTERS

I am not an expert at watercolor and I actually use water painters more like markers where the coloring is not messy or outside the lines like traditional watercolor but this has a look of its own that is beautiful and pretty easy once you get the hang of it. It's a great way to use our ink refills as well.

One thing I often forget with water painting or watercoloring is to dry your color and set it before adding the next color so the colors don't bleed and get blotchy. I recommend your heat tool or allowing time to air dry depending on what you prefer.

STAMPIN' BLENDS CARD

For the Horse:
  • SU 500, SU 400 or Medium Combo in Natural Tones Stampin' Blends for the Body
  • SU 300. SU 200, SU 100 or Deep Tones in Natural Tones Stampin' Blends for the Hair
  • Basic Black Light for the Straps and Hooves
For the Sleigh:
  • Pebbled Path Combo
For the Couple:
  • Real Red
  • Pool Party
  • Shaded Spruce
  • SU 800 and SU 900 for Skintone Natural Tones Blends (Light Combo)
TIPS FOR PAPER PIECING
  • The larger the image, the easier to paper piece
  • Choose different patterns (like the light woodgrain for horse) to make it visually fun and interesting
  • You can paper piece small details but don't overdo it
  • Be mindful of where you are stamping so you can preserve the nature scene on the opposite side of DSP if using patterns from One Horse Open Sleigh DSP like I did

WATERCOLOR/ WATER PAINTERS

For the Sleigh:
  • Real Red (Ink Refill Drops for all of the colors listed here)
For the Couple:
  • Real Red for the hats
  • Early Espresso for Man's Jacket
  • Moody Mauve for Lady's Jacket
  • Petal Pink for Skin
  • Starry Sky for Blankets in Sleigh
For the Horse:
  • Gray Granite
TIPS:

The more water mixed with color, the less intense it is (like a wash look)
The less water mixed in the more intense the color

Be careful when you using water painters that they are not sopping wet (too wet) or too dry. Just make the bristles are wet and damp to the touch. If its too dry you may not get even coloring and if its too wet the water will be hard to manage.

Keep a towel or cloth nearby to clean brushes in between colors. You can also dab up excess water and color with a paper towel or cloth.

I say start lighter with your color and build the color in layers. It's safer to do it this way because you can always add too but you can't erase water color (unless its very wet and can be dabbed up).

Use Heat Tool to set each color before adding the next color. This helps prevent any bleeding or mixing of colors you didn't want. It prevents any muddiness look.

All cards are Basic White 5-1/2 x 8-1/2" Scored at 4-1/4"
All cards use the largest rounded rectangle die from Gone Fishing Bundle to cut the DSP layer.

I hope you enjoyed this (early bird) kickoff to Christmas Crafting!

I am DEFINITELY team Christmas in July! More to come!

In the meantime, take advantage of the Starter Kit Special in June! Get the extra savings! Enjoy the perk of getting those preorder items first and a jumpstart to handmade Christmas cardmaking early!

Card Designs You Need to Try This Summer: Darling Details

CARD MEASUREMENTS:
  • Card Base: 5-1/2 x 8-1/2" Score: 4-1/4" (Basic White Cardstock)
  • Deckled Rectangle Layer: 3-3/4 x 5-1/8" Largest Die (Basic Black Cardstock)
  • Darling Details Lace Layer: 3-1/2 x 4-3/4" (Bubble Bath Cardstock)
  • Darling Details Lace Layer: 3-1/2 x 4-3/4" (Basic White Cardstock) *For Inside Piece*
  • Larger Flower Head Die Cut (2) Basic White Cardstock
  • 3 Leaf Die Cut (2) Basic White Cardstock
  • Stem Die Cut (2) Basic White Cardstock
  • Tinsel Gems 4 Pack
INSTRUCTIONS:

Stamp the smallest leaf in Granny Apple Green all around the edges of the Basic White Card Front at a slight angle, alternating the direction as you go.

Stamp the smallest flower in Bubble Bath ink next at the top of all of the leaves you just stamped around the border. It doesn't matter that it doesn't line up perfect or if you stamp off slightly, this is just to get a pretty floral border with pops of color around the edge of your card. The Deckled Rectangle layer will cover most of this. We are just creating a little DSP look.

Pop up Deckled Rectangle on dimensionals. Add to card.

For your die cuts:
  • Stamp Outline of Large Flower in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink
  • Stamp Fill Stamp of Large Flower in Bubble Bath Ink
  • Stamp Outline of Leaf Trio in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink
  • Stamp Fill Stamp of Leaf Trio in Granny Apple Green Ink
  • Stamp Line Details of Leaf Trio in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink
  • Stamp Stems in Granny Apple Green Ink
Glue the lace layer to the deckled rectangle.

Stamp sentiment on the Basic White layer that fits into the lace border frame and glue inside lace frame.

NOTE: if you are leaving the background black (see card) you will heat emboss your sentiment instead.

Glue stems. Place flower heads and leaves on dimensionals and add to the card above the sentiment.

Finish with Tinsel Gems in green if desired.

NOTE: If heat embossing, I recommend the White Powder from the Basics pack. Heat set with heat tool. I do also recommend an anti static tool which is in the Embossing Additions Tool Kit. This helps ensure a clean heat emboss technique. Stamp your sentiment in VersaMark ink, sprinkle the white powder on it. Heat set.

See video tutorial for steps as well.

A Handmade Card That Needs No Words to Show Support: Sweet & Precious St...

Send someone a card who needs to know you are there for them and believe in them.

This was very near and dear to my Momma heart in May. I felt compelled to make these based on a very difficult month my son had where he needed lots of extra support and encouragement. If you know someone going through a hard time, consider the Sweet & Precious Stamp Set. The artwork needs not a single word to express the emotion and messaging here, but there are really great sentiments to accompany these meaningful images.

Giraffe Card: Version 1
Baby is slightly lighter than Mom (Daffodil Delight Light, Softer Browns)
Used a Small Blending Brush to add some Parakeet Party ink around the edges of the inner border

Giraffe Card Version 2: Mom & Baby Same Shades!
Stampin' Blends: Daffodil Delight Dark, Medium (or SU 500),
Deep Combo (or SU 100, SU 200), Pool Party Combo for outline around giraffes
Parakeet Party Combo for Leaves
*NO shading with ink on border this card*

MEASUREMENTS:
  • Card Base: 5-1/2 x 8-1/2" Score: 4-1/4" (Parakeet Party Cardstock)
  • Basic Black Layer: 3-3/4 x 5" (Darling Details Die, Largest Frame)
  • Basic White Layer: 3-3/4 x 5" (this one you only use the inside for this card to stamp giraffes)
  • Inside Basic White Layer: 4 x 5-1/4"
  • Die Cut for Sentiment: Angled Banner from Something Fancy Dies
INSTRUCTIONS:

Stamp giraffes on white piece that fits into the Darling Details Frame in Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

Stamp leaves all around the edge of the border framing the giraffes - also in Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

NOTE: This ink is safe to use with alcohol markers which Stampin' Blends are alcohol based.

Use Stampin' Blends to color giraffes in the following shades:
  • Daffodil Delight Dark (all over giraffes)
  • SU 500 or Medium Shade (looks like a latte brown) this goes in shadow areas and where there is fine detail line art by the artists on their faces, blend with Daffodil Delight Dark
  • SU 200 or Deep (second to deepest shade) for Spots and ears
  • SU 100 or Deep (deepest brown tone) add a little to the spots, especially on Mom, and the hairs on the neck and head
  • Pool Party Combo: Optional but you can outline the giraffes to separate them from the white background, Dark first, then light... or just use light for a more subtle glow around them
  • Parakeet Party Combo: Light all over every leaf on the border, Dark just add here and there for dimension
  • NOTE: Stampin' WRITE marker in Basic Black used on the eyes, eyelashes and baby's mouth just to give more definition, make it pop (this is also optional)
Once your coloring is done, glue the Darling Details frame down first to the card base. Place giraffes on dimensionals and then fit into frame.

Stamp "I believe in you" in Memento Black ink on the angled banner die cut. Glue under giraffes.

NOTE: The penguin card is not featured in the YouTube video because I had technical issues uploading the footage and did not have time to re-record. I'll note below how I made this, though I will say I would change the Basic Black cardstock to a gray here so we could better see the penguins heat embossed in black. Still wanted to include it here!

MEASUREMENTS:
  • Card Base: 5-1/2 x 8-1/2" Score: 4-1/4" (Tahitian Tide Cardstock)
  • Basic Black Layer: 3-3/4 x 5" (Darling Details Die, Largest Frame)
  • Basic White Layer: 3-3/4 x 5" (this one white outside, black layer inside)
  • Inside Basic White Layer: 4 x 5-1/4"
INSTRUCTIONS:

Stamp penguins in VersaMark ink. Heat set in black for this tone on tone look.

Use white watercolor pencil (just as a pencil here) and color in areas of penguins that are white.

Use Basic Gray watercolor pencil to sketch an outline around the penguins to help them stand out against the black background.

Heat emboss sentiment in White Heat Emboss powder above the penguins.

Glue white frame down first. Then fit the penguins into the frame!
