Today's Paper Pumpkin Alternates focus specifically on the stamp set and re-creating the look of the Santa Die Cut once you use up the die cut pieces from the kit and want to keep the look and theme going with the Santa face stamp.
I loved the Paper Pumpkin die cut Santa so that was my inspiration for today's cards. It's actually a good thing when you use up the pieces in your kit, but you have a few options once they are gone purchase refills (if available) or utilize the Santa stamp that comes in the kit.
3 x 3 cards are great for group parties, gift giving or events. They are a perfect size for kids to get or make when they are just starting to make cards and it's a great way to extend the life of your kit and stamp set and leftover pieces.
I decided to use a different DSP (Lights Aglow Designer Series Paper) for this project, and I decided to color the Santas with water painters and re-inkers or ink refill bottles as they are better known. If you are not familiar with them, we use the ink refills to refresh the color in our ink pads.
CARD MEASUREMENTS
- 3 x 3 Card Base
- 3" Lights Aglow DSP layer
- 7/16 x 2" Very Vanilla Sentiment Layer
- Scrap watercolor paper (or thick cardstock) to stamp and color Santas (I fussy cut but you could also cut out with a small circle or oval or square die from your collection)
- 2 Gold Swirl Embellishments
- I recommend the 3-1/8 x 3-1/8" Basic White Envelopes from Stampin' Up! I had mentioned there might be Very Vanilla but it's Basic White for this envelope size and I have included them in the product list below
INSTRUCTIONS
Stamp multiple Santa faces in Stayz On ink on watercolor paper. If you are fussy cutting you don't need much space inbetween images, but if you plan to cut the face out with a die, just make sure you leave enough space between images for the die you are using.
Add a few drops of desired colors onto a clear block with a few drops of water and mix together. Color with Water Painters. The more water, the softer the wash or color. Less water means much more intense color. I like the happy medium mix of water and color.
Color hat, skin and add some gray to the beard if desired. I used the following colors:
- Cherry Cobbler (Hat, Nose and Cheeks)
- Soft Succulent (Hat)
- Petal Pink (Face)
- Gray Granite (Beard and Trim on Hat)
Cut out Santa faces and set aside.
Create your card bases by cutting a piece of cardstock to 6 x 11" score at 3" and then cut every 3 inches. You should get 3 of the 3 x 3 card bases per sheet.
Take the Lights Aglow DSP sheet that has the 4 gold foil shapes on it. Cut it at 3" and then cut again at 3" you will get 4 square pieces of DSP with two gold foil circle patterns and two square gold foil patterns. This gets glued to the card front. Put dimensionals on the Santa faces and place in upper center of the shape. Stamp "Santa is Coming to Town" from Paper Pumpkin stamp set onto the sentiment piece and then place those on mini dimensionals just under Santa's face.
With the Framed & Festive Stamp Set from Fitting Florets Collection, add the inside sentiments to your cards. They are the perfect size and coordinate beautifully.
Finish the card off with the brand-new Gold Swirl embellishments from the Fitting Florets Collection.
These could easily be tags for a gift bag as well! Just punch a hole in the corner and string onto bag handle or ribbon.
I hope you enjoyed today's project. You can find all of the products used linked below for these alternate card ideas. I do not link refills because you have to be a Paper Pumpkin subscriber to order those.
GIFT GIVING SEASON STARTS NOW!
Remember, Paper Pumpkin is such a great gift idea! There are several ways to gift Paper Pumpkin. You can purchase extra kits, wrap them and gift them or purchase a pre-paid code for them. You could assemble a set of cards from a kit and have the completed cards be the gift so they can send gorgeous handmade cards to loved ones. My favorite idea is creating a family or friends night where you assemble kits together and make it a memory. Make it a tradition.
Adhesives! This is also a great stocking stuffer or gift idea for cardmakers, stampers, crafters, scrapbookers... Kits do include adhesive but it's great to have extra on hand for holiday projects or for the new year! If you are interested in an adhesive bundle reach out to me.
Happy crafting and remember this is a great time to join Stampin' Up! as well. Learn more here:
